If you are staying in a villa in Marbella and considering a private chef, the most useful question is not simply what will be served. It is how the whole experience works: who plans the menu, who shops, where the food is prepared, what the villa needs, how service is paced and what you should confirm before reserving the date.

What does a private chef in Marbella actually do?

A private chef service should cover far more than the final cooking. For Mery Rose Mery, the experience begins with the brief: guest numbers, timings, preferences, allergies, the villa kitchen and the style of the occasion. We then design the menu, source the ingredients, prepare and cook in the villa, serve the food in the agreed format and leave the working kitchen clean at the end. The aim is for guests to enjoy their own home or holiday villa without inheriting the organisation behind the meal.

Private chef or catering: what is the difference?

Catering and private-chef service can overlap, but they are not the same experience. A catering company may prepare food elsewhere, transport it and deliver several events on the same day. Our model is deliberately different: we cook the experience in the client’s villa and Mery and Alfredo remain personally responsible for the service. For guests looking for an intimate luxury villa experience rather than drop-off food, that continuity matters.

What is normally included in an in-villa chef experience?

The chef service normally includes menu planning, food sourcing, two-chef preparation and cooking, service of the agreed menu, simple table styling using the villa’s own tableware, printed menus and the final kitchen clean-down. Food purchases are separate from the chef service fee, and additional waiters, specialist rentals or travel outside the normal service area are added only when the villa, guest number or style of service requires them.

How much does a private chef in Marbella cost?

Price depends on the amount of chef time reserved, the number of guests, the menu and food cost, the villa logistics and whether additional service staff or rental equipment is needed. A single dinner, a Half-Day with two meal periods and Full-Day or multi-day villa assistance are therefore priced differently. We publish current starting service fees and indicative food-cost directions in our estimator so guests can understand the structure before asking for a personal proposal.

What does the villa need before the chefs arrive?

A beautiful holiday kitchen is not automatically a practical working kitchen. Before confirming a service we ask for clear photos or video of the hob, ovens, refrigeration, freezer space, dishwasher, preparation surfaces and the dining area, plus any barbecue or outdoor kitchen that will be used. For larger groups we also check crockery, cutlery, glassware, tables and chairs. If the experience is planned outdoors, an interior Plan B protects the service if the weather changes.

Do I need a waiter as well as the private chefs?

For smaller groups, Mery and Alfredo can often cook and manage the food service themselves. From around ten guests, or whenever the meal includes more formal table service, frequent drink service or a larger number of courses, a waiter is normally recommended. The purpose is not to make the evening feel formal; it is to protect the timing so the chefs can concentrate on the kitchen while guests are looked after continuously.

Can I hire a private chef for several days in Marbella?

Yes. A private chef can be booked for one meal, for a Half-Day rhythm, for a Full Day or for a longer villa stay. Multi-day service is particularly useful for families and groups who want breakfast, lunch or dinner organised around their own plans rather than around restaurant reservations. Shopping and menu planning can then be coordinated across the stay, while each day still has enough flexibility to respond to excursions, children, guests joining the villa or a change of pace.

How far in advance should I book a private chef?

For founder-led services, availability is often more limited than it is with a large agency. Mery Rose Mery accepts one client at a time and does not send a rotating chef team in our place, so a date is only secure once the booking process and payment required for confirmation are complete. For peak summer weeks, Christmas, New Year and important celebrations, earlier planning gives the best chance of securing the exact date and service rhythm you want.

What information should I send before asking for a proposal?

The fastest useful brief includes the date, villa location, number of adults and children, preferred meal time, any allergies or dietary requirements, the type of experience you have in mind and photos of the kitchen and dining area. From there, menu direction and service format become much easier to recommend. If you are still deciding, it is perfectly reasonable to begin with the experience you want to create rather than with a finished menu.

What makes a luxury villa chef experience feel effortless?

Luxury at home is rarely about adding more ceremony. It is about removing friction: knowing who is responsible, having clear timings, trusting the people entering the villa and feeling that the menu belongs to the group rather than to a fixed restaurant formula. When the same chefs answer the first message, plan the food, shop, arrive at the villa and cook the meal, that continuity becomes part of the experience itself.
